Frequently asked questions
Common questions about super claims, insurance through super, early access, and the Free Claim Check.
CantWork helps Australians take a simple first step in checking whether they may hold insurance through super, a retail policy, or an early-access-to-super pathway worth exploring. We focus on plain-English guidance, no jargon, and practical next steps.
It's a no-obligation conversation where we help you work out whether there's a relevant pathway worth exploring โ insurance through super, retail insurance, early access to super, or something else. No cost, no commitment.
Yes โ completely free, with no obligation to proceed and no hidden fees. If your situation needs specialist legal or financial support, we may refer you to a trusted provider, who will explain their own fees separately.
Yes. We help people right across the country, and most of our work happens by phone, video or email โ so location isn't a barrier.
Many funds automatically include cover such as TPD, income protection or death cover, so you may hold it without realising. The Free Claim Check helps you see what's there and whether it may apply to your situation.
Yes โ if you held cover in more than one fund at the relevant time, you may be able to claim across all of them. People often have small or forgotten accounts still holding valuable cover.
TPD usually pays a one-off lump sum where a condition is permanent and stops you working. Income protection pays a regular monthly amount while you're temporarily unable to work. Many people qualify for both at different stages.
No. Most people just need a clear place to start. We can begin with what you know โ even if you're unsure of the details of your accounts or policies โ and help you find the rest.
It depends on your situation. The Free Claim Check itself usually takes about 15 minutes. From there, claims can range from a few weeks (for things like terminal illness benefits) to several months or more (for complex TPD claims). We'll give you a realistic timeframe up front.
Not always. Depending on the pathway, we can help you understand who to contact, or refer you to a specialist who can manage the claim with you. The aim is to keep things as straightforward as possible.
A rejection isn't always the end of the road. There may still be options โ internal reviews, AFCA complaints, additional medical evidence, or different policy definitions. We can help you understand what's possible.
Yes. Receiving the Disability Support Pension or other Centrelink support doesn't stop you claiming TPD or other super insurance โ they're separate systems. Many people on DSP have entitlements they've never claimed.
Mental health conditions โ including depression, anxiety and PTSD โ can absolutely form the basis of a TPD or income protection claim. A large share of our enquiries involve mental health.
Time limits vary by claim type and policy. Some pathways (like AFCA disputes) have specific deadlines; others, such as a TPD claim for a long-standing condition, are often more flexible. Don't assume it's too late โ check first.
No. It's general guidance to help you understand which pathways may be worth exploring. Where your matter needs specialist legal or financial input, we'll refer you to a trusted provider.
No โ CantWork isn't a law firm. We provide guidance and connect people with the right specialists, including lawyers, where their situation calls for it. Many claims don't need legal involvement; some do.
We treat your information with care and use it only to help with your enquiry. We don't sell or share your details with third parties for marketing. See our Privacy Policy for the full detail.
